Innovation Maps: IT Industry top 1000 Services and Products Competing Map

This time, we’re not talking about cutting-edge technology, but a competitive map of current services and products. Actually, we were planning to research the topic of “no-code tools,” but the information ChatGPT picked up was comprehensive information about current services and products, so we changed the direction of my research midway and created a competitive map. We will explore the no-code development trend on another occasion.

As a result, the full version of the maps will use maps trained by SOM directly from embedding vectors and maps trained by SOM on the UMAP coordinate axes. The full version of the map is provided free of charge to users with a Viscovery SOMine Enterprise Data license.

A compact version of the map, viewable in the free Viscovery SOMine Visual Explorer, distributes maps learned from UMAP coordinates. This will cost 60 USD. This is intended as a study before starting full-scale concept research that requires a Viscovery SOMine license. At this time, we will refrain from providing the project files that allow you to search for similar text free of charge.

The data behind this map was generated by ChatGPT, including names, URLs, descriptions, compatible products, and keywords for 1,086 major IT services and products. And then, the Embedding Vectors of description texts has retreaved via OpenAI API. The embedding vectors of the description text do a very good job of spatially placing services and products by their similarity. This allows us to represent the competitive relationships of a wide range of services and products on a single map.

With this map and AI, we can explore ideas and concepts for services and products. For help using maps, see other posts on this blog. Here we will introduce just one example. For example, consider the business idea at the selected (shaded) node in the map below.

Services related to story and video production are clustered around this node. First, extract the UMAC coordinates from this node value. Then display the “Nearest Nodes” in the data record window and extract their description text and UMAP coordinates.

We provide this information to ChatGPT to interact with it. ChatGPT first calculates the coordinates and says that Storybird is closest to this node. ChatGPT also proposed the following product ideas:

  6. Community and Sharing Features: Users can share their content within the community and receive feedback. The sharing settings allow for public sharing or restricted access to specific groups.

MediaMerge is suitable for both professionals and amateurs, providing powerful tools to quickly and efficiently advance creative projects.


We also asked ChatGPT the following questions:

We won’t go into the details of the answers, but we got some accurate answers. ChatGPT can answer vague questions, but by providing a comparison object and its coordinates as shown above, it can calculate a more accurate ideas and concepts of the desired coordinate.
